  16.      _a_u_t_o_f_s_d is an RPC server that answers filesystem mount and unmount
  17.      requests from the AAAAuuuuttttooooFFFFSSSS filesystem.  It uses local files or name service
  18.      maps to locate filesystems to be mounted.  These maps are described with
  19.      the aaaauuuuttttooooffffssss(1M) command.
  20.  
  21.      The _a_u_t_o_f_s_d daemon is started during system initialization from the
  22.      /_e_t_c/_i_n_i_t._d/_n_e_t_w_o_r_k script if the configuration flags nnnnffffssss and aaaauuuuttttooooffffssss are
  23.      set oooonnnn.  Type the following commands as superuser to enable AAAAuuuuttttooooFFFFSSSS:

  28.      Rebooting invokes the _a_u_t_o_f_s command with options from
  29.      /_e_t_c/_c_o_n_f_i_g/_a_u_t_o_f_s._o_p_t_i_o_n and starts the _a_u_t_o_f_s_d daemon with the options
  30.      contained in the file /_e_t_c/_c_o_n_f_i_g/_a_u_t_o_f_s_d._o_p_t_i_o_n_s.  The _a_u_t_o_f_s command
  31.      passes mount point configuration information found in the file
  32.      /_e_t_c/_a_u_t_o__m_a_s_t_e_r to _a_u_t_o_f_s_d.  Do not kill _a_u_t_o_f_s_d to change the AAAAuuuuttttooooFFFFSSSS
  33.      configuration.  Run the _a_u_t_o_f_s command to cause changes in the
  34.      configuration maps to take affect.

  42.      ----pppp _p_r_i_o_r_i_t_y     Set the _p_r_i_o_r_i_t_y of the daemon process.  The daemon will
  43.                      run at the priority specified, with a scheduling policy
  44.                      of _S_C_H_E_D__T_S. The default priority is 30.

  46.      ----ttttpppp _d_u_r_a_t_i_o_n    Specify the _d_u_r_a_t_i_o_n, in seconds, that the results of a
  47.                      probe of a server's availability will remain cached.  The
  48.                      default is 5 seconds.

  50.      ----ttttmmmm _d_u_r_a_t_i_o_n    To assure robust compatability, autofsd if necessary will
  51.                      attempt to contact a remote server using all supported
  52.                      mount versions and protocols until the server
  53.                      successfully responds, or the all attempts have been
  54.                      exhausted.  This parameter affects the time out for _e_a_c_h
  55.                      _a_t_t_e_m_p_t.  The default timeout _p_e_r _a_t_t_e_m_p_t is 20 seconds.

  74.      ----mmmm _m_a_x_t_h_r_e_a_d_s   Set the maximum number of threads that _a_u_t_o_f_s_d will
  75.                      create to handle autofs mount or unmount requests.
  76.                      _a_u_t_o_f_s_d will create the threads only when needed. At this
  77.                      time the user cannot specify a number greater than 16 for
  78.                      _m_a_x_t_h_r_e_a_d_s. The default is to run autofsd multi-threaded
  79.                      with the maximum, 16 threads. Setting this option to the
  80.                      value 1 will cause autofsd to run as a single threaded
  81.                      process.

  83.      ----EEEE _u_s_e_r         _a_u_t_o_f_s_d will first do a setuid to the specified _u_s_e_r
  84.                      before executing any autofs maps. This is done for
  85.                      security reasons, to allow the system administrator to
  86.                      specify that autofsd should execute autofs maps, if any,
  87.                      as a user who does not have any superuser privileges.

  89.      ----PPPP _t_c_p|_u_d_p      _a_u_t_o_f_s_d will default to do all nfs mounts with the IP
  90.                      protocol specified here. The user can override the
  91.                      protocol specified here by using the _p_r_o_t_o=_x_y_z mount
  92.                      option in the autofs maps. The currently allowed options
  93.                      are only tcp and udp. If this (-_P) option is not used,
  94.                      the default is to do all nfs mounts with udp. If the tcp
  95.                      option is specified and the remote nfs server does not
  96.                      support nfs over tcp, autofsd will retry the mount over
  97.                      udp.
